About
The Health Equity Institute, the long held dream of many patient advocates who seek to offer guidance to ALL patients, was launched in 2023 to address the inequities in today’s health care system.
HEI is organized as a public foundation. We are a non-profit; 100% of our funding comes from donations from the corporations, endowments and foundations, families and people who want to make a difference.

Our Team

Dr. Brita Lundberg, Chair of the Board
An infectious diseases specialist and internist, Dr. Brita Lundberg is founder and CEO of Lundberg Health Advocates, a medical consulting group. A former Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Dr. Lundberg is passionate about patient advocacy and systems change.
Dr. Lundberg completed her B.A. at Harvard, medical school and residency at the U. of Wisconsin-Madison, and fellowship in infectious diseases at the U. of Colorado.
Dr. Lundberg is an active member of her community. She serves as member (and former Chair) of the Board at Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility, member (and former Chair) of the Environmental and Occupational Committee at the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), and as a Chair of the Nominating Committee and delegate and member of the MMS Charles River District–because she considers advocating for public health part of her job as a physician.

Julia Bandini, Secretary
Julia Bandini is a social scientist whose research focuses on end-of- life care. She is passionate about improving the quality of care for vulnerable patients with serious illness and their family caregivers. She received her PhD in Sociology from Brandeis University and BA in Sociology from the College of the Holy Cross.

Catherine Lee, Treasurer
Catherine Lee is a finance professional in the greater Boston area. Since receiving her AB in History and Asian Studies from Dartmouth College and a certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University, she has played an active role in nonprofits in her community in Newton. She has served for many years as PTO Treasurer, first in the Newton Middle Schools, then as PTSO Co-Treasurer for Newton North High School–roles that have drawn on her professional expertise as a financial planner.
Cathy has first hand experience as a patient advocate, having helped many of her non-English speaking family members as a caregiver, translator and patient representative. She feels that all patients should have access to quality medical care and advice.

Corrine Taylor, Board Member
Corrine Taylor, faculty emerita at Wellesley College, provides HEI with a patient’s perspective. Diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2015, Corri understands the need to be her own health care advocate when possible, and the need to seek help from professionals in navigating tricky aspects of medical treatments, finances and insurance, and other patient needs for support.
She draws on her experiences working in strategic planning and her expertise in economics and statistics in contributing to the HEI Board.

Tanya Wojtowych, Board Member
Tanya Wojtowych brings to the HEI board her extensive experience as a private investment and financial management consultant as well as her communications, fundraising, and development skills. She currently serves on the boards of three other non-profit organizations, where she specializes in finance and strategic planning. She is excited and honored to help extend awareness and reach of patient advocacy– a valuable and needed service in our increasingly complex healthcare system.
